Trip Advisor 2014 Winner

First established as a public house in 1756 – having been bought from a private owner for the grand sum of £60 – we are a family-owned, free house. We pride ourselves on the warmth of our welcome, the excellence of our beers and taste and quality of our food.

We have recently undergone a total refurbishment, keeping our friendly bars and feel whilst adding a softer, more contemporary look to our dining areas.

The quest to find the ultimate Sunday roast is fraught with below-par offerings. Not here, though – the mixed roast with beef, lamb and pork is world class

Grilled Lobster

The menu is impressive and the surroundings charming. I chose the flagship dish, whole grilled lobster with garlic butter and skinny fries.

Beautifully presented, it melted in my mouth

Cobham Look

Be assured. The Running Mare is a winner.

My pal went for Cumberland sausages, piled high on a green onion mash with lashings of rich brown caramelised red onion gravy – her comment – simply the best she’d ever tasted

Sunday LunchOur Sunday lunch is probably my favourite – especially the mixed roast

The Landlord, The Running Mare

Choose from our traditional Sunday roasts – sirloin of beef, Suffolk pork, Devonshire lamb, free-range roast chicken; or spoil yourself with The Running Mare Mixed Roast – a proper start to Sunday afternoon.
